River improvement project launched in Beihu District

On May 29, the opening ceremony of the pilot project of water system connection and village construction on river improvement was held in Wushan Village, Huatang Town, Beihu District, Chenzhou City.

 

The project is among the third batch of pilot projects at county level of the Ministry of Water Resources, with a total planned investment of 369 million yuan. 
 
Located in Huatang Town and Baohe Yao Town in Beihu District, the project covers 17 villages with a total area of 238 square kilometers, mainly including the management of six rivers in the Xiangjiang River Basin, namely the Xihe River, the Tupo River, the Gulingxia Creek, the Yajiang River, the Huatang River and the Hanxi River.
 
The project aims to build villages along the Xihe River into beautiful water village models with Hunan cultural characteristics through comprehensive measures, such as water system connection, river dredging, river bank improvement, headwater conservation as well as river and lake management.
 
After the completion of the project, Beihu Section of the Xihe River will see significant improvement in rural drinking water safety, water volume, water environment, habitability and so on, which will benefit more than 60,000 people and generate ecological, economic and social effects.
